Alastyr

A hosting, domain and cloud provider based in Izmir since 2002. The mirror runs in our own datacenter, on our own autonomous system AS3188.

Why is it free?

Most of the software we run is open source. A fast mirror in Türkiye is the most direct way to give back a slice of bandwidth we already have. We ask nothing in return — no ads, no registration, no tracking.

Frequently asked questions

Why should I use a local mirror?
You pull packages from Alastyr’s datacenter in Izmir instead of a server abroad. Latency is low and throughput is high: the server sits on a 10 Gbps link, a few hops from most providers in Türkiye. Installs, updates and container image builds get noticeably faster.
Is it free? Do I need to register?
Completely free. No registration, no rate limits, no request quotas — we do not throttle your download, you get whatever your link can carry. To protect the server, rsync accepts at most 40 concurrent connections; there is no such cap on HTTP and HTTPS. Alastyr runs this mirror as a service open to the community; you do not need to be a customer. Commercial use is allowed.
How often is it updated?
Most repositories are checked hourly and synced immediately when the upstream changes. Rocky Linux is checked every 15 minutes, Raspberry Pi every 6 hours. The last sync time of every repository is shown live in the table on this page.
Is it safe? How do I verify files?
Files are copied verbatim from the distributions’ official sources; nothing is modified. Even so, do not base your security on the mirror: apt, dnf and pacman verify every package against the distribution’s own GPG signature. If the signature is valid the file is correct, no matter which mirror it came from.
Do you support IPv6?
Yes, with native IPv6. The web server, rsync and the speed test server are reachable over both IPv4 and IPv6. IPv6 is still uncommon on mirrors in Türkiye; if you run IPv6-only networks you can pull from here without trouble.
Can I feed my own mirror from here?
Yes, the rsync server is public and read-only. rsync rsync://mirror.alastyr.com/ lists the available modules. If you plan heavy use, let us know at mirrors@alastyr.com.
A package is stale or missing, what should I do?
First check the last sync time in the table on this page. If upstream published recently, it will arrive on the next run. If a repository has not been updated for hours, something is wrong on our side — write to mirrors@alastyr.com.
I get a GPG or signature error
This usually comes from a stale cache on the client, not from the mirror. apt clean && apt update or dnf clean all && dnf makecache resolves it in most cases.
How do I measure the mirror’s speed?
Download a large file and look at the rate: curl -o /dev/null https://mirror.alastyr.com/ubuntu/ubuntu-releases/noble/ubuntu-24.04-live-server-amd64.iso is enough. For the general speed of your link, use the Ookla Speedtest server running on the same machine (Alastyr — Izmir).

Why can the two differ?

Speedtest opens many parallel connections and runs briefly; a single file download is one TCP stream and is affected by latency, packet loss and disk speed. A lower figure is not a fault.
